The Borgund stave church is perhaps the most famous of the surviving stave churches due to the dramatic dragon’s head decorations and the obvious pagan-Christian syncretism that they embody. No example of pagan Norse temples remain, but you can probably get a rough idea of what they looked like from Borgund. It is an image that one does not soon forget.
It is a stunning, stunning place.
